Pauline was born October 24, 1919 to James and Minnie Cross in Atchison, Kansas. She attended school in Leavenworth and after graduation worked at a defense plant in Kansas City where she made hospital tents and airplane parts for the army. She married Robert Hartle in November, 1948 and moved to Henry County where they lived and worked on the Spangler farm until Bob retired and they moved to Clinton.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, and six sisters.
She is survived by her foster child Jerry Baldwin; grandaughters Jennifer Lutjen and Jana Baldwin; grandson Jeremiah Baldwin; and eight great grandsons; as well as nephews Ned Cross, David Cross and Ed Wagoner.
