MONTEREY -- Funeral services for Loyd Melvin Swallows, 70,
will be held Wednesday, August 1, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Homer Funeral Home with burial in the Welch Memorial Cemetery. Additional Masonic memorial services will be
held today at 8 p.m. at the funeral home by Monterey Masonic Lodge #751.
Mr. Swallows died Monday (July 30, 1990) in Standing Stone Health Care Center following an extended
illness.
Born March 17, 1920, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Tilbert and Mattie Sams Swallows. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, he was retired from General
Motors, a member of the Monterey First Baptist Church and a member of the Monterey Masonic Lodge #751 F&AM.
His family includes his wife, Magnolia Phillips Swallows; two sons, Russell Swallows, both of Pikeville and Randall Swallows of New Carlisle, Ohio; three sisters, Dolly Cromer
of Ashville, North Carolina, Zora Mae Norrod of Rickman and Dora Bilbrey of Crossville; four brothers, James Swallows of Pikeville, Lonzo Swallows of Monterey, Walter Swallows of Somerset, Kentucky, and Joe Swallows of Ohio; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
Mr. Swallow's nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Rex,. Gerrald Bland and Rev. Talmage Phillips will officiate at the services.
