Mrs. Gene Meek Brown, age 88, passed away Wednesday, October 6th, 2010, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Brown was born January 31, 1922, to Roy Eugene and Leola (Kinney) Meek in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Gene was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught at various schools; and locally teaching the first grade at Bulloch Academy from 1971 until the early 1980s. She was a former member of the Georgia Southern Dames, DAR, Statesboro Art Association and volunteered in a number of clubs. She enjoyed bird watching, homemaking, cooking, her dogs and her friendships. She treasured her relationships with her former students.
Genie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Walter L. Brown of Statesboro; a daughter, CiGi Dillberger, and her husband, John, of Nashville, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Geraldine L. Pennington; and a son, David Meek Brown.
The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
