He was born as Gyorgy Csopp in or near Kassa, Hungary (present day Kosice, Slovakia), the child of Anna Wargar and George Csopp. He came to the US about 1892 and settled in Melrose, Massachusetts, where he married first Ella Schaffer. George worked first in the local rubber factory then as a stationary engineer (janitor or maintenance man). George and Ella had 4 children: Ella T, George J, Anna Helen, and John. After Ella's death in 1923, he married second the widow Jeanette S Jenkins Gile and lived in her home on Porter Street until her death. George passed away at the home of his daughter in Everett in 1955.
