Leman Harper, 81, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2010. He was born September 1, 1929 in Broxton, Georgia to the late Alan and Eliza Young Harper. Leman spent most of his life in Jacksonville, was a 32degree Scottish Rite Master Mason (Riverview Lodge #306) and had received 7 medals and two stars while serving in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 56 years, Jonell Hurst Harper; daughters, Donna Cheek (Jack), Deborah Smith (Frank), and Jeanette Green (Mike); brother, Thomas Jimmy Harper; sister, Thelma Harper of Georgia; grandchildren, Chris Cheek (Julia), Christina Smith, Jack Cheek IV, Melissa Stafford (Tommy), Misty Smith (Tony) and Jodie Thorsen (Brad); 7 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 13th at 11am in the chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Road, Jacksonville, with Rev. Josh Reavis officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Jacksonville National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, October 12th from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
