He stood 5' 11" tall and had sandy hair and gray eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Manchester Township, York County, August 23, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 31 as a private with Co. D, 200th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 30, 1865.
He married Mary Smyser and fathered Charles H. (b. 10/13/66), Edward (b. @1868), Sallie (b. @1869), Latimer J. (b. 08/27/71), David (b. @1875), George (b. @1877), and Augustus Emanuel (b. 09/18/79). In 1890, he lived in Manchester Township, York County, where he died from "lobar pneumonia." He is often referred to as "Urias" rather than "Darius."
