Services for R. C. "Buster" Turlington, 91, Chandler, are Monday at Chandler. Graveside services with military honors will follow at Post Oak Cemetery.
Mr. Turlington died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010 in Tyler.
He was born Dec. 1, 1918 in Malakoff to the late Ruben Gordon and Viola Hurt Turlington. Following graduation from Cross Roads High School in 1938, "Buster" enlisted in the U.S. Navy that began a 22-year career. He retired in 1962 as a Gunners Mate Chief. He served on the U.S.S. Portland CA33 in the Pacific Fleet.
He and his brother Lester are due to be honored at the Admiral Nimitz Naval Museum in Fredericksburg in the near future for serving together on the same ship. The Japanese treaty was signed on the Portland in the Truk Islands.

After retiring from the U.S. Navy, "Buster" worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Dallas 15 years. He was a member of Dallas Love Field Masonic Lodge No. 1274 A.F. and A.M.
He was preceded in death by brothers Lester Royal Turlington, James Robert Turlington, Alvin Curtis Turlington, Ruben Angelo Turlington, Willie Lee Welch and sister Christine Lunsford.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Louise Turlington, Chandler; daughter Janean Wacha and husband Ernest, Palestine; granddaughter Michelle Johnson and husband Les, Palestine; grandson Jason Wacha, Tyler; great-grandchildren Bryce Wacha, Chase Wacha, Kynley Wacha, Dylan Johnson; brother H. G. Welch, Irving; sisters-in-law Mary Frances Turlington, Cross Roads, Phillis Turlington, Allen, Twyla Stafford, Elk City, Okla.
