Funeral services for Robert Turlington, 68, of Brownsboro, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct 21, at the Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Athens with Rev. Johnny Allen officiating.

Burial was at the Post Oak Cemetery in Henderson County.

Mr. Turlington died in a Jacksonville hospital Tuesday, Oct. 19, after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 27, 1925, in White Flat to Reuben Gordon and Viola Hunt Turlington. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. NAvy. Mr. Turlington was a resident of Henderson County most of his life.

He worked for the Louisiana Off Shore Drilling Co. for a number of years. He also taught elementary school for a number of years in Vidor. Mr. Turlington was district clerk for Athens from Sept. 1950-Dec. 1954.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin C. Turlington on Dec. 13, 1989.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly Osborne of Jacksonville and Brenda and Mark Justice of Athens; stepmother, Mary Lee Shields of Athens; three brothers, R.C. Turlington of Chandler, L.R. Turlington of Pasadena and Reuben Turlington of Richardson; two step brothers, Willie Lee Welch of Athens and H.G. Welch of Irving; a sister, Christine Lunsford of Gilmore; sister-in-law, Mary Frances Turlington of Cross Roads; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Michael Shane Turlington, James Christopher Tompkins, Dustin Lee Tompkins, Jimmy Wayne Ulmer, David Branson Parker and Larry Kirkpatrick.
