On February 14,1942, in Rolla, Missouri, Bill was united in marriage to Betty Ruth (Gruber)Cassatt. Betty passed away in 1987. On June 18, 1988, in Cuba, Missouri, Bill was united in marriage to Emma (Steffen (Rutz) Cassatt.
He is survived by one son, William Cassatt Jr., one daughter Rebecca Jo Whiteside, step sons Earl and Ed Rutz, step daughters Eva Buchanan and Emma Yancy, sisters Ann Wilt of Odenton, Maryland, Margaret Collins of Wyandotte, Michigan, grand children Diana Kay Wilson of Saint James, Missouri, Carrie Ellen Nelson of Leawood, Kansas, and Camille Mary children, along with many of Leesburg, Ohio, four great grandchildren, along with many other relatives and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, and one brother John and one son Jack.
Bill was in the military for over 20 years, retiring at the rank of Major. He spent most of his military career in the field of Explosive Ordnance Disposal. He earned the Bronze Star and numerous other decorations for duty in the Philippine Islands. He served in Austria, Germany and numerous stateside locations. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by those who knew him.
Bill is best known in Saint James as the former owner of Saint James Generator and Starter Service which he ran from 1958 to 1978.
