Margaret Steven's uncle Thaddeus Stevens, he is acknowledged as the most powerful congressman in U.S. history.

Margaret Stephens married Samuel Bucher on Apr 14, 1846. They had their first four children in Virginia before moving to Westport, Missouri in 1852. Her husband was a shoe-maker and also the Marshal of Wesport. Samuel was shot in cold blood on a Sunday afternoon, June 15, 1879.

Margaret Stephens Bucher has a sister, Letitia Henning "Lottie" Stephens Bucher, in which she is buried next to her.

A PIONEER OF WESTPORT DIES

Mrs. Margaret Bucher, 90 years old, had resited here since 1852. Mrs. Margaret Bucher, 90 years old, the widow of Samuel Bucher, who was called from his home and shot while marshal of Westport in 1879, died at the home of her son, Jacob P. Bucher, 4523 Summit Street, Saturday. Mr and Mrs. Bucher came to Westport in 1852 from Newtown, Va., shortly after their marriage, and at the time of her death she probably was Westport's oldest resident.

Mr. Bucher was a pioneer shoemaker of Westport. Mrs. Bucher made covers for prairie schooners. Mr. Bucher served in the Confederate army under Gen. Sterling Price. (This last sentence about Bucher serving in the Confederate army may be untrue as I found him for the Union, Private, Company I, Regiment 6 Kansas Volunteer Cavalry. Although his child who was born in 1862 was named Sterling Price Bucher... Could Bucher served in both armies?)

Surviving Mrs. Bucher are seven sons, John S., William H., Philip D., Sterling P., Jacob P., Joseph S., and Robert L. Bucher, all of Kansas City except William H. Bucher, who is a farmer at Barton, Mo.

The funeral service will be held at the home of Jacob P. Bucher at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
