Mrs. Alberta Briggs of Topeka, a former resident of Douglass, died at Topeka Monday, Nov. 27, 1961. She was born Feb. 12,1882, in Macoupin County, Illinois. She was married to Robert A. Briggs on April 13, 1904, at El Dorado. They lived for years on the farm now owned by Kyle Clary. Mr. Briggs died in 1929. Mrs. Briggs had lived in Topeka for some years. She was a 50-year member of the Royal Neighbors, and past Noble Grand.
She is survived by a son Robert A. Briggs Jr., Topeka; two daughters, Mrs. Roberta Rosseau of Kansas City, Mo.; and Mrs. Marguerite Lynch, Cerro Gordo, Ill.; and five grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Austie Henry, died a few years ago.
Funeral services were set for Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 from the Douglass Christian Church, of which she was a member, conducted by Rev Robert Todd. Singers were Mrs. S. S. Olmstead and Joe L. Guyot with Mrs. Keith Bush, organist. Burial was in the Douglass Cemetery. Bearers were Onon Vandergriff, J. E. Schmidt, W. L. Gibson, David Whitney, Lawrence Redford and J. L. Taylor.
