George's obituary appears in the July 4, 1924 issue of the newspaper (The Journal) from Alma Nebraska, as follows:
"George L. Lashbrook Dead
George L. Lashbrook, an old and highly respected citizen of Alma, died at the age of 67 years at his home Wednesday morning at 11:00 o'clock, after a lingering illness of months duration caused by dropsy and other complications.
The deceased has been a resident of Harlan county for the past twenty-five years.
During a greater part of this time the deceased has been engaged in running the Lashbrook hotel. Being thus engaged he came in contact with many people and his faithful service built for himself a reputation for honesty and liberality seldom exceeded by man. He was a friend to those in need and never missed an opportunity to help some poor traveler on his way.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home Friday morning at 10:00 o'clock by Rev. Runcie, assisted by the local I.O.O.F. lodge of which he was a member.
The deceased leaves two sons, Alva Brady of Frankfort, Kansas, and Leonard Lashbrook of Alma, as well as three brothers, one sister and a host of friends to mourn his death.
The brothers and sister, Charles Lashbrook of Blackwell, Okla., Chester Lashbrook of Arkansas City, Kansas, Mrs. Dora Smith of Arkansas City, Kansas, Myron Lashbrook of Almena, Kansas, as well as the sons were all present and will attend the funeral services.
The Journal joins the friends of the relatives of the deceased in extending sympathy in the hour of their sorrow."
George's wife, Nellie, is his first cousin.
