Daughter of John E. Newton and Sinthy Fleming.
Granddaughter of Peter Newton II and Mary Hannah Waddle and of Thomas Fleming and Nancy Allen.
Great-granddaughter of Peter Newton I and Mary Lou Caweya.

Married William Hammond in Crawford County on April 20, 1854. They were the parents of:
John Amos (died in infancy)
Susannah Frances
Denton Davis (married Alice Gilmore)
James Newton (married Mary Alice Bell)

William served in Company G, 93rd Regiment of the Indiana Volunteers during the Civil War & the family Bible stated that he died at the Florence Prison in South Carolina 01 October 1864.

On Sept 20, 1865 Nancy married Aaron Lamon, son of John E. Lamon (Lemon/Lemons) and Lucinda Booth. They were the parents of:
George Washington (married Minerva Ella Esarey)
Eliza Ellen (married James Dale Hammond)
Elisha E
Lydia M, (married Justis Gibbs and Daniel Reich) and
Sarah Isabelle "Belle" Lamon (married J.W. Brady)

In 1908 Nancy Hammond married Stephen Rowland in Crawford County, Indiana.,

Nancy A. Lamon was born March 16, 1839, died April 27, 1917, aged 78 years 1 month and 11 days. She was married to William Hammond in 1854 who gave his life for his country during the Civil War, leaving her to face life's battles alone with three little children, which have also preceded her in death. She was again married to Aaron Lamon in 1865. To this union five children were born, George, Eliza, Elisha, Bell and Lydia, who all survive her.

She united and lived principally all her life in the Methodist church, and was a devoted member. In her last few years she made her old Bible her companion and during her last sickness she expressed her sentiments that she had tied to live a righteous life through her long years, and she felt no fear when the hour cane to bid us all goodbye. All the living children were present at the funeral except one who did not receive the message in time.

Funeral services were held at Bethany church April 28th, conducted by Rev. Myers McKinney, of Metron, Ind.
