Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m., Friday October 8, 2010 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth with Rev. Fr. Frank Perkovich as celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before the mass at the church. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Daniel Skalko, 90, of Eveleth died Friday, October 1, 2010 at St. Raphael's Health & Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth.
He was born on November 2, 1919 in Sparta, Minnesota to John and Mary (Cihan) Skalko. Daniel was a graduate of Gilbert High School and attended Eveleth Junior College. He was united in marriage to Frances H. Kavcich on April 8, 1942 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Eveleth. Daniel was a World War II Veteran having served in the Army Air Force. Upon his discharge, he worked for USX as a production truck driver and at the time of his retirement worked in security. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, where he had been an usher for many years, Frank A. Mancina Council 2583 Knights of Columbus, Fayal Golden Club, and American Legion Post # 239 of Virginia and the George & Mark Klobuchar Post # 4456, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Gilbert. Dan had many friends and he enjoyed his coffee an' at K-Mart.
He is survived by his wife, Fran; daughter, Diane (David) Schlofer of Lakeville, MN., sons, Daniel (Julie Ann) Skalko of San Diego, CA., Patrick Skalko of Eveleth, MN.; grandchildren, Brett (Susan) Anderson, Todd (Anne) Anderson, Dylan (Marie) Skalko, Jill Scholfer, Zachary Skalko, Nicholas Skalko; great grandchildren, Madisyn, Morgan, Emma Rose, Joshua; great great grandchild, Christine; brothers, Steve Skalko of Gilbert, MN., Bill Skalko of Minneapolis, MN., Edward (Marian) Skalko of Virginia, MN.; sister, Ellen (John) Drobnick of Fridley, Mn.; numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; four brothers, three sisters and parents.
