Anthony Garrett "Tony" Bauer, of Vienna, formerly of Brinktown, was born December 14, 1926, at Brinktown, a son of Herman Peter and Celestine (Winkleman) Bauer, and departed this life at 4:15 A.M., Wednesday morning, September 29, 2010, in St. Mary's Health Center, Jefferson City. Mr. Bauer had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 83 years, 9 months, and 15 days.
Mr. Bauer was united in marriage on August 20, 1988, at Tipton, to Katherine Groves who preceded him in death. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Joe, John, Norbert and Ralph Bauer.
Mr. Bauer was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Jefferson City, and in his early years he attended school in Brinktown. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II and had served on the USS Bennington. Mr. Bauer was a pipe fitter and in maintenance at McDonnell-Douglas Corp, St. Louis, for thirty-three years from 1951 until 1984 at the time of his retirement then moving to the Jefferson City area. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 2693, Jefferson City serving as vice president in 1998, the Roscoe Enloe American Legion Post No. 5, Jefferson City, a life member of the Eldon Veteran of Foreign Wars Post No. 2442; and a 4th Degree St. Jude Knights of Columbus. Mr. Bauer enjoyed being outside doing some fishing and turkey and deer hunting.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Bauer include: One brother, Martin Bauer, Brinktown; six sisters and three brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Wester, St. Louis; Theresa Koerber, Pinesdale, Montana; Agnes and Dan LaBruyere, Brinktown; Mary Gansmann, St. Louis; Odelia and Gale Kristoff, Phoenix, Arizona; and Gertrude and George Melick, Ladue; nephews; nieces; and other relatives and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mr. Bauer at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 2, 2010, in the Guardian Angel Catholic Church, Brinktown, with Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz celebrating. Appropriate Catholic selections were provided by Mrs. Donna Knapp who accompanied herself with her guitar.
Interment with full military honors provided by the Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon, were in the Guardian Angel Cemetery, Brinktown, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers were relatives and friends.
Spiritual offerings to be applied for Masses are preferred by the family of Mr. Bauer with envelopes available at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
