Mike Porter, 51 of rural New Sharon, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Saturday, October 2, 2010, at his home. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, October 7, 2010, at the Highland Cemetery in New Sharon. Visitation will begin after 12pm Wednesday, October 6, 2010, with the family present from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mike's name to the memorial of your choice.

Joseph Michael Porter, the son of Warren and Shirley M.(Suggett)Porter was born on May 8, 1959, in Oskaloosa, IA. He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1977, having been active in FFA. Mike farmed with his father and on his own until his health caused him to retire. He maintained interest in old tractors, especially AC's, hunting, fishing and guns. In addition to farming, Mike worked for Hawkeye Seed Company in Pella. He enjoyed reading, a good movie and company of friends. Mike was a lifetime member of the NRA.

He is survived by his father, Warren Porter of Grinnell; his sister, Dr. Kim Porter and her partner Linda Baeza Porter, of Emerado, North Dakota and many friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Porter in 2005, his grandparents, Charles and Margaret Suggett and Joe and Elva Porter.
