Winfred (Shorty) Cooper, 49, a resident of R. 3, Mitchell, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Bedford Medical Center.
Born July 17, 1928, in Lawrence County to Leslie and Lucy Phillips Cooper, he was married to Linnie Hoskins Nov. 8, 1952, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Steven Dewayne Cooper and William Greg Cooper, both of R. 3, Mitchell; three sisters, Mrs. John (Lucy) Lynch, Mrs. James (Violet) Karr and Mrs. Charles (Kathryn) Hedrick, all of Mitchell; and two grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Mitchell, a veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 of Mitchell.
Funeral servies will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Haverly Mortuary in Mitchell with the Rev. Robert Clendenon officiating with the Rev. John Burger assisting. Burial will be in Sheeks Cemetery.
Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. today in Chapel A of the mortuary. Cecil C. Martin Post No 250 will accord the veteran last military rites at the grave.
