La Rose, IL - Ruth A. Hattan, 87, of La Rose died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Snyder Village Health Care Center in Metamora.

Ruth was born March 29, 1923, in rural Toluca to Carl and Louise (Korneamm) Althaus. She married Cecil "Smiley" Hattan on May 26, 1946, in La Rose, Ill. He preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1980.

Surviving are one daughter, Jane (Gary) Clanin, of Toluca; two grandchildren, Mercea Wilson of Washington and Andrew (Mindy) Clanin of Orland Park; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Jonathan Wilson and Lexie Clanin; one sister, Lois (Wayne) Vogelsmeier of St. Louis; and one brother, Edmond Althaus, of Colorado.

Ruth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in La Rose, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and was Sunday school teacher for many years.

She was employed as a secretary at Westinghouse in Peoria, and later was a teller at the Washburn Bank and owned and operated Smiley's Restaurant in La Rose with her husband. She later worked with her daughter and son-in-law at Smiley's.

Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in La Rose.
