He turned control of the girl over to his daughter, Alta, and her husband, Charles Everest, in Havana, Illinois. Laura J. Close, born February 14, 1865 in Mason County, Illinois to John G. and Mary Francis Mounce Close, died February 4 1884, aged 15 years, 11 months, 21 days, buried near her father, John Close, who died April 5, 1877 and buried in Carter Cemetery, Mason County, Illinois.
