☆~ VETERAN, WORLD WAR II (1939-1945) ~☆

Merle Anderson, 91, of Hastings, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at his home. Merle was born on March 26, 1919, in Hastings to F.G. and Hannah Anderson.

He married Dorothy Ann Kissinger on Aug. 9, 1941.

Survivors are: his wife, Dorothy Anderson; sons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Connie Anderson, Alan and Mary Kay Anderson, Scott and Kristy Anderson; and sister and brother-in-law, Lenore and Jack Tompkins; grandchildren and spouses, Mike and Kristen Anderson, Kim and Shawn Wiseman, Justin and Kelly Reineke, Corey and Becky Anderson, Cara and Marc Skradski, Hannah Anderson and Jordan Anderson; and great-grandchildren, Morgan Wiseman, Logan Wiseman, Brendan Reineke, Dylan Reineke, Gracie Anderson, Jenson Anderson, Aspen Anderson, Nathan Anderson, Elizabeth Anderson and Emily Anderson and a host of friends and relatives.

After graduating from Hastings High School, his family moved to a farm north of Ayr.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was stationed at Navy Pier in Chicago as an aviation instructor. He was also an instructor at the Memphis (Tenn.) Training Center. He served aboard the USS Webster in the Pacific Theater until the end of World War II. After returning home, he began farming and established Triple A Ranch and raised Polled Hereford cattle.

He was president of the Adams County Fair Board for 18 years and served four terms on the Board of Governors for Central Community College. After moving to Hastings, he started a real estate career with Perry Rankin Realty, later he joined Rose Realty. Merle established Merle Anderson Realty until he retired and he kept his real estate license until he was 90.

Merle Anderson was preceded in death by his parents.
