Daughter of Elizabeth (Rosser) Harrell and (presumed) daughter of John Rutledge Harrell. She was the sibling of Lydia Harrell Rogers (Wife of Calvin Rogers. For proof, see John A. and Joseph P. Harrell's probated estate records), Joseph P. (married Nancy Hasty), John A. (married Sarah Hasty). She was the half-sibling through her mother's first marriage to Reuben Harrell of Eli Peoples Harrell and James Atlass Harrell. It is presumed that Jane's mother married John Rutledge Harrell but all documentation (marriage, death, birth) leaves the father's name blank. No marriage license has been found for John R. Harrell to Elizabeth Rosser Harrell and John R. Harrell never divorced his wife. I am taking a leap here and believe that the Harrell last name was adopted by Elizabeth to protect her four children. Most likely these four are illegitimate.

Mrs. Jane E. Hasty, widow of the late J. J. Hasty, died yesterday morning at her home at 236 West Third St. Mrs. Hasty had been in ill health for some time and her death was not unexpected. She was 71 years old and is survived by six children; Mssrs. Jesse Vernon and Marion Bennett Hasty and Mesdames Henry E. Seger (NOTE: Nancy E. Hasty Sweiger), and Mrs. Thomas Smith, of Charlotte, and Mr. John S. Hasty and Mrs. Pinkney W. Cook of Monroe. The body was taken to Monroe last evening and the funeral will take place there at 9 o'clock.

(Missing from this obit: Mary Eugenia Ezzell, June Hasty, Elizabeth J. Maness, and infant son Hasty)
