Son of Jesse Hasty and Nancy Heath, he married Jane Ellen Harrell, daughter of John Rutledge Harrell and Elizabeth Rosser, on January 27, 1853. Their children were: Mary Eugenia (married Thomas Ezzell, Jr.), June Hasty, Infant Hasty, Jesse Vernon (married Della Hart), Elizabeth Jane (married J. Maness), Nancy E. (married 1. Walter L. Whitfield and 2. Henry O. Sweger), Martha Angeline (married 1. George Evans and 2. Pinkney Walker Cook), John S. (married Letitia Stewart), Marilla J. (married Thomas Smith), Marion Bennett (married Bessie Truitt).

Marion Bennett is buried in Maryland.

Ex-Sheriff Hasty of Union Dead Monroe, March 21 -- Last night at 10 0'clock ex-sheriff J.J. Hasty, one of the old landmarks of this county, passed away. He was 65 years old and has been in declining health for several weeks, and his death was not unexpected. He had many friends and a large crowd attended the funeral and burial. He was a member of the Baptist Church and belonged to the Masonic Order. He was buried with Masonic Honors.

He was the brother of Jesse Caswell Hasty.
