Hubbard was the son of Rev. Williams Kavanaugh & Hannah Hubbard Hinde. He married Margaret Railey Green on 24 July 1828 & they had 6 children. Hubbard was a Methodist Episcopal minister. He was bishop of the Methodist Church South & was one of the most eloquent & influential bishops of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Hubbard was part of a league of Protestant ministers who coalesced for an onslaught on the Catholic Church, agreeing with each other for an exchange of pulpits & for a combined polemical attack on the Church.
