Mass of Christian Burial was March 10 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upsala with Father Greg Mastey officiating. Burial was at St. Edward's Cemetery in Elmdale, MN.
Joseph was born on March 29, 1912, in Elmdale Township to the late Frank and Katherine (Wehseler) Koshenina. He was married to Rose Mary Kalis on May 31, 1937, in St. Edward's Catholic Church in Elmdale. The couple farmed in the Upsala area prior to Joseph taking a job as a rural route mail carrier for the Upsala and Albany area. He was a mail carrier for 35 years, and later the acting postmaster in Upsala. He was a school board member for the Upsala School District, trustee for St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upsala, bookkeeper for Upsala Co-op Telephone Company and he belonged to the Upsala Lions Club.
Survivors include his sons, Charles and wife Ellen of Fort Myers, FL, Eugene of Houston, TX, Leon and wife Kathy of St. Cloud, MN, Joel of Annandale, MN, Francis of Inver Grove Heights, MN, and Gregory and wife Arlene of St. Cloud, MN; daughters, Therese Rose and husband Herman of Osceola, WI, and Katherine Nelson and husband Charles of Brooklyn Park, MN, brothers Anthony and wife Alice of Roberts, WI, and Bernard and wife Elaine of South St. Paul, MN; sisters, Frances Yorek and husband Pete of Little Falls, MN, and Louise Gallus of Bowlus, MN; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mary (Kalis) Koshenina who passed away November 19, 1985; his parents, Frank and Katherine Koshenina; brothers, John, Thomas and Henry Koshenina and his sister, Marie Koroll.
Casketbearers were Greg, Joel, Leon, Charles and David Koshenina; Steve Nelson and Shane and Jason Paulson.
