Peggy Adair (Whites) Thigpen, age 83 of Augusta, died Wednesday afternoon at Golden Living Center Nursing Home (Beverly Manor) after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, "Samuel" Seaborn Herman Thigpen, of Avera, GA.
Peggy was born October 24, 1926 at Ft. Eustis, VA. She is the daughter of the late Clarence Whites and Sadie Chappell Whites.
Peggy was an "Army Brat" in her youth and later an Army wife. Her primary work outside the home was acting as switch board operator at various locations which included Ft. Greeley, AK, The Levine Medical Center in Hayward, CA, and the Oliver General Hospital in Augusta, GA.
Peggy was a long time member of First ARP Church in Augusta and former church historian. Peggy was the past president of "The Friendship Group" for senior adults and a volunteer at "The Blue Goose" - GA War Veteran's Nursing Home.
Survivors include a daughter JoAnn Pedersen (Rick) of Paso Robles, CA and a son Gary Wayne Thigpen (Leona) of Augusta, GA; grandsons SPC Scott Reynolds (Rebecca) U.S. Army, Afghanistan, and Corey Reynolds, Nappa, CA; a sister, Ruth Friend of Paso Robles, CA; nieces Cathy Curti ( Ciro) of Rocky Hill, CT and Patricia Friend of San Diego, CA.
The family would like to express its gratitude for the compassionate care Peggy received from Dr. Cardello, Dr. Broadwater and Robbie, Dr. Tomeo and the staff of Golden Living Center Assisted Living and Nursing Home facilities at Beverly Manor.
A graveside service was conducted by Rev. Mark Taylor on Saturday, October 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Westover Memorial Park.
