Wesley Gordon Bynum, 86, of Rector, Ark., died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, Ark.

Born Oct. 30, 1915, in Lee County, Ark., he was a farmer, a member of the Rector General Baptist Church and the Farm Bureau, past president of the Rector Lion's Club, former alderman and he served as little league commissioner for four years.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel Bynum, of Rector; three daughters, Peggy Ingram and husband, Bob, Melba Ingram and husband, Wayne and Dianna Brewer and husband, Eddie, all of Rector; one step-son, Alan Abbott, of Kennett; one sister, Dorothy Strickland, of Kennett; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha Bynum; two sons, Larry and Richard Bynum; one step-son, Dale Abbott; four brothers, Rob, Robert and Garvin Abbott and an infant brother.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Rector General Baptist Church with the Revs. James Henry Dortch and Kenny Burns officiating. Burial was in the Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector. Pallbearers were the grandsons, Ryan, Russ and Luke Brewer and Chris, Doug and Tim Ingram. Honorary pallbearers were Wesley Mills, Chad Abbott, Donald Rogers, Bill Smithee, Wayne Birmingham, Clifton Carter, Vickie, Ashley and Erica Mills, Lindsey and Jessica Ingram and Becky and Sidney Brewer. Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector was in charge of arrangements.
