Susan married Alfred Turner in Missouri, they having 5-children. In 1850 the family joined others on their way to Oregon. Along with two of his daughters, Alfred died of cholera while the family was near the Green river in present day Wyoming.

In 1851 Susan married in Marion County, Oregon, Stephen Porter, widower of Catherine Jane Coffey.
