Oscar was born to Oscar William and Gladys Martin Adams in Urbana, IL. As a student at Urbana High school he was a standout football player, and during his last two years as a student there the Tigers lost only one football game. He graduated in 1938. He was a member of the Urbana High School Hall of Fame. Oscar served in the Army during WW2. He married Alice Bernice Kimpel on December 6, 1942 in Reno, NV. Oscar was a University of IL graduate and began teaching in the Urbana school system in 1950. He served as an assistant football coach, head wrestling coach, golf coach, and head football coach from 1959-1971, twice leading the Tigers to the "Sweet 16" in the state basketball tournament. He later became Athletic Director at Urbana High School from 1978 to 1986, when he suffered a stroke. In 1989, the new Urbana High School Gymnasium was named Oscar Adams Gymnasium. Unable to speak at the ceremony, he wept tears of joy. Oscar was the director of the former Tiger's Den youth center from 1950 until it closed in 1970. For 19 years he managed Crystal Lake Park swimming pool. He served a term on the Champaign County Board as well as serving on the Urbana Park District board. Children: Barbara; Bonnie; Oscar; Richard; Stephen & Nancy.
