"GEORGE ORDWAY DEAD
-------------------
Former Street Commissioner
Passes Away Suddenly

Death came suddenly at 5:30 Friday afternoon to George B. Ordway, 609 West State Street, who complained of feeling ill shortly before and went to bed at 5 o'clock. Death was due to heart disease.
Mr. Ordway had been in failing health for the fast few years, and two years ago was confined to his bed for five months. During the past year, however, he had been feeling quite well, and only two days ago visited the Elks' club, where he was accustomed to passing his leisure hours.

George Byron Ordway was a native of Lowell, Mass., where he was born Aug. 30, 1846. He was married to Miss Ellen M. Bowers, who died here Jan. 30, 1912. In 1878 Mr. & Mrs. Ordway came west, settling on a farm in Hardin county, and in 1892 moved to this city. For ten years, Mr. Ordway was street commissioner of this city, first taking office with the opening of the administration of Mayor L.B. Jones in 1901, and continuing in office thru the succeeding administrations of O.L. Ingledue until 1911. Mr. Ordway was a veteran of the civil war, having served with a Massachusetts regiment. He was a member of the Elks' lodge and the Episcopal church.

Surviving their father are three children. Mrs. Fred Vogel and Miss Mabel Ordway, of this city, and Orlando (sic) B. Ordway of Oakland, Calif.

Funeral services will be held from the family home at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, in charge of Rev. C. P. Drew. Interment will follow at Riverside."
