Velma Odessa Cassady, 65, of Rt. 1, Novinger, died at 5:02 Monday afternoon (April 9, 1979) in a Kirksville hospital where she had been a patient since March 30.
Born on Sept. 26, 1913 in Shattuck, Okla., she was the daughter of Curty W. and Etha Wiedenkofer Pope. On Dec. 24, 1932 in Kirksville, she was married to Virgil Eugene ("Jack") Cassady who preceded her in death on March 7, 1977. Also preceding her in death were one son, one brother and one granddaughter.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Velma LaVon) Dixon of Prineville, Ore.; two sons, Donald Eugene Cassady and William Lee Cassady, both of Rt. 1, Novinger; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and one sister, Opal Parker of LaPlata.
At an early age, Mrs. Cassady moved with her parents to the Youngstown community. She attended Sloan's Point School. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Cassady resided in the Youngstown community. Before her retirement in 1975, due to ill health, Mrs. Cassady had been an employee of the Florsheim Shoe Company for over 30 years.
After 10 o'clock Wednesday morning the body will be at the Johnson Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon (April 12, 1979) at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in the Lutz cemetery.
The casket will be closed at the funeral hour and not reopened.
