Mrs. W. S. McDonald Dies
Mrs. W. S. McDonald a well known pioneer resident of Douglas township, died at her home at 3:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, March 28th. Mrs. McDonald who was 77 years of age, had been ill with a general break down, since last October and her condition has been critical for some time.
The deceased was the former Miss Ellen Combs. Her birthplace was in Buchanan county, Missouri, but she came here with her parents, when she was a small child. Her marriage to Mr. McDonald took place October 2, 1872, and they have since made their home in Douglas township. They lived on what is known as the McDonald farm for thirty-five years and for the past fifteen years, have been in their present location.
Mrs. McDonald leaves her husband and seven children; Robert L. McDonald, Luther McDonald, Mrs. H. L. Kitchell, Wallace W. McDonald, Mrs. Verne Bennett, Earl McDonald and Mrs. H. F. Clark, all of Winterset, Tom McDonald and Mrs. Will Leach have preceded the mother in death, and two children died in infancy. She also leaves a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The McDonalds observed their golden wedding anniversary eleven years ago, and last October all of the children were home on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary. Mrs. McDonald was ill at that time, so the day was observed quietly.
Funeral services will be held at the home at two o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon, and burial will be in the McDonald cemetery.
