John C. Dawson,72, Died Last Wednesday
After Long Illness

John C. Dawson,72,died early last Wednesday morning at his home near Glennville after a long illness. He was a native of Tattnall County, having lived here all his life.

Mr. Dawson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catherine Cowart Dawson, Glennville; two daughters, Mrs. Carnell Ray, Glennville and Mrs. Floyd Johnson, Camden, N.J.; one son, Gene Dawson, Savannah; two sisters, Mrs. A.S. Mobley, Glennville and Mrs. Jim Dixon, Glennville; two grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Watermelon Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. W.R. Barnard, the Rev. P.B. Purcell, and the Rev. H.C. Hodges.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were nephews, Thurman Mobley, Herbert Mobley, Thomas Dawson, Parley Padgett, Carlos Padgett, and Hazel Dawson. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Charles Drake, Clinton Boone, the Rev. E.W. Purcell, the Rev. Marcus Rushing, Bunion Tootle, Dewey Tootle, Fred Tootle, Talmadge Tootle, Austin Aaron, Rufus Thomas, Claude Ray, .L. Cowart, Dan Cowart, Judge R.L. Carr, Carl Bradley, Willie Smith, W.A. Thompson, H.M. Mishoe and the deacons of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church.
