Elizabeth Barrow Wylde was the granddaughter of John Barrow who was the Magistrate of Wedmore in Somerset County, England. The Barrows were a well-known family active in English politics. The family resided in the Wedmore Manor and can be traced back to the 1600s in Wedmore. There is a deep and rich heritage of England that runs through her ancestral lines.
Elizabeth was baptized at St. Thomas Parish Church in Clapton Common, Hackney, Middlesex County, England on 20 March 1836. On the baptismal record, her father was listed as a traveler which indicated that he was in sales.
In the 1841 English Census, her father Charles owned a Wine and Spirit establishment where liquor was sold. Her brother Charles was visiting and living with their grandparents in Wedmore, John Barrow and Charlotte Marie Andrews. John Barrow was the Magistrate of Wedmore in this Census.
In the 1851 English Census, Charles was listed as a Wine Merchant and the family was living in Walton on Thames, Surrey County, England.
On 19 May 1857, Elizabeth married Henry Ernest Wylde at St. Margaret's Parish Church in Lee, Kent County, England.
She migrated to New York in 1867 with her family.
They first lived in Hudson County, New Jersey but soon purchased a home on Kings Highway in New City, New York. New City is a village in Clarkstown. There the family became active at St. John's Episcopal Church on Main Street in New City.
Elizabeth had 15 children. Only two of her children, Elizabeth Barrow Wylde Haring and Cecelia Wylde Washburn had descendants.
