Daniel was the son of Alexander Crawford & Janet McDougall. He was married twice, first to Sarah Houston on May 22,1881 at Orillia, Ontario. Sarah died May 5,1898 in Morrison Township, District of Muskoka, Ontario. She is buried in the Symington Cemetery, in Morrison Township. Daniel married again to Jewel Crawford about 1912.

His sisters are; Mary (Mrs. Louis Trombley), Mrs. Johnson Campbell, and one other living in the States. He first married Sarah Houston, in Muskoka and they had four boys and a girl; Tom and John, in the North, and Alex. and Duncan now dead. The daughter became the wife of James Adam, of McDonald's Crs. and died some years ago. He returned to his birthplace about 28 years ago and married again about 21 years ago to Jewel Crawford (no relation) ; they had the following children; Allan; Marjorie; Margaret; Edith, and Donald. (NB. His first daughter's name was Mary.)
