Lars Olson (Søndre Scheie) was born in Eiken, Hægebostad, Vest Agder, Norway, to Ole Simonson (about 1813-maybe 1892) and Anna Larsdatter (1799-1851). The church date of his birth was January 20, 1840 and the church date of his baptism was Feb. 9, 1840.

Lars and Elisabeth were married April 10, 1860 in Eiken i Hægebostad.
Lars and Elisabeth left from Eiken for the U.S.A. in 1862 with widower father Olav Sigmundson (Ole Simonson). His brother Simon and sister-in-law Taline left the year after.
Ole Simonson Scheie later married Birit in Wisconsin before 1865.

In 1865 to 1866 they were in Menomonie, Dunn Co., Wisc., where Lars filed his intention to naturalize in 1866, and their son Carl was born.

They were at various times in S.D. and Iowa. In 1880 they took a homestead near the Keya Paha River in Nebraska, SW quarter of Section 28, 034N-017W, 6th PM, Keya Paha, Nebraska.

Around 1897, they took in their son Carl's three children, Leo, Mary and Julia while Carl went to Camrose County, Alberta looking for a homestead.

By 1900 they were farming in Alton Township, Brookings County, S.D. The household included Lars, Elisabeth, their three youngest children and three grandchildren.

Their children are:
Ole (1861-1863) born and died in Norway;
Anna Alena (1863-1947, born in Iowa, married Amos Oakland (Økland) 1881);
Ole Carl (1865-1933) born in Wis.;
