Vera Jones McQueen 1919 ~ 2010

Vera Jones McQueen, 91, passed away peacefully at her home in American Fork, on Monday, September 20, 2010 surrounded by her children. Vera was born July 23, 1919 in Moreland Idaho, the third of eight children born to Gracie Claire Davis and Joseph Lewis Jones. Vera attended many different schools during her childhood years in Idaho, and graduated from Glenn's Ferry High School in 1937.

Vera married Irel S. McQueen on Jan. 31, 1950 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Two years later the first of their five children was born and in 1954 they moved to Denver, Colorado, where the McQueens would make their home for the next 23 years, retiring to Utah in 1977. Throughout her life Vera was a joyful example of a generous heart and willing hands. The core of her life was faith and family. To her parents she was a joy; to her treasured siblings a shining example. To her children, in whom she instilled a love of God, she was a devoted mother, a gifted homemaker, a loving teacher, and a tireless supporter. Within her church she offered her talents as an instructor, an organizer, and a kind friend to all.

Vera faithfully served two full-time missions for the LDS Church; the first in her young adulthood, in the New England States mission, and the second with her sweetheart, Irel S. McQueen in Minneapolis, Minnesota. One of her greatest joys in life was the 19 years of faithful service spent with Irel in the Logan LDS Temple.

Vera is survived by her five children: Dian and husband Kevin Lee of Taylorsville, UT; Verl and wife Mary of Cedar Hills UT; Keith and wife Sharon of Orem, UT; Owen McQueen of Menlo Park, CA; and Lora Lee and husband James Park of American Fork, UT, and leaves a legacy of faithfulness to her 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters: Evelyn Borup, Tremonton UT; Norma Murray, Homedale ID; and Lois Ward, Boise ID, and is preceded in death by siblings, Wayne, Dorothea, Helen, Gordon, and Gwendlyn.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Manila Second Ward Chapel, 950 East 850 North, American Fork, Utah (adjacent to the Mount Timpanogos Temple). A viewing will be held Friday, September 24, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah, and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Graveside services will be in the Cloverdale Cemetery, in Boise, Idaho on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be sent to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund or the LDS Humanitarian Fund.
