Charles Rufus Hanks was a druggist and he and a partner owned a drugstore on Wylie Avenue in Pittsburgh, PA. He married Zelda Bortz, who was a schoolteacher in McKeesport, PA. They made their home in Dormont, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA. They didn't have any children but were very good to their nieces and nephews. Zelda died in Nov. 29, 1960. In his later years, he sold his home, and spent his final years in a nursing home. He died the age of 90. written by Neva Karns niece to Charles Rufus Hanks

This Charles Rufus Hanks is my Great Granduncle and is the original Author of the Hanks Genealogy book. Had it not been for his Research, (1932 paper) and questions he had asked his Grandfather, Eli Fisk Hanks, when he was young, the connection to Rufus Fisk Hanks, his Great Grandfather, descendants in his book would not know they are related to the First Benjamin Hanks, Sr., one the first settlers in Plymouth, Ma in 1699, from England and of course Abe Lincoln through his mother Nancy Hanks who was the Great Granddaughter of Benjamin Hanks, Sr.
