In November 1901, Thomas William Dowdy had taken a bale of cotton to the gin in Granite, OK. While waiting for the cotton to be ginned, something spooked the team of mules and caused Thomas to fall off the dock onto his head, causing his death. Arvie Zena Donham Dowdy was widowed with six children and pregnant when her husband died.
