The obituary provided below, with great appreciation, by John Webber on January 5, 2024, was reported in The Dolores Star on August 3, 1906 and reads as follows:

"William Rentz.

Died at 10:00 o'clock Wednesday evening, August 1, of pneumonia, William Rentz, aged 24 years.

Billy Rentz was taken sick two weeks ago but had improved sufficient to be able to walk about some when he was taken ill with pneumonia Sunday morning. He was getting along nicely and up to within twenty minutes of his death was not thought to be dangerously ill.

Deceased is a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Rentz and was born at Antelope, Texas, 24 years ago, and at the age of 20 had come to Colorado. He assisted his father in putting in the Rentz-Puett irrigation system. April 19, of this year, he was married to Miss Tempie Lockett, and they had made their home on a ranch south of this place. They were at the home of Mrs. Rentz' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Lockett, during his sickness and at the time of his death. Besides a wife, father and mother, he leaves two brothers, Hugh and Sammie, and three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Withers, residing five miles from Dolores, and Mrs. Nora Thompson and Mrs. Gussie Medford, both residing in Texas, to mourn his departure.

Billy was a young man of excellent habits and was well liked by all who knew him. He was a lover of outdoor sports and has in former years been a member of the Mancos base ball team, and this year played with the Dolores boys, being a valuable member of the team.

The funeral will be held this (Friday) morning. Interment in the Dolores cemetery."
