She was born April 4, 1923 in Lindon, to Matthew Leonard Fryer and Hazel Rebecca Tomlinson Fryer. She grew up in Lindon on a fruit farm; she attended Lindon and Pleasant Grove schools, graduating in 1941.

Maxine married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Thorne Smith, May 25, 1942 in Evanston, WY; their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, May 25, 1959. Thorne passed away Oct. 29, 1984.

Maxine was well loved by all her family. Her home was the center of many cherished family activities.

An active member of the LDS church, she served in many callings, Relief Society President, Stake Relief Society Presidency and in the branch Relief Society Presidency at the Utah State Developmental Center, a calling she especially loved. She also served as an ordinance worker at the Provo Temple.

Maxine was a wonderful wife and mother and took pride in a beautiful home and loved her flower gardens. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and quilting. She had a number of good friends who brightened her life. Her last few years were challenging, but she faced her challenges, rarely complaining.

Thanks to all the caregivers who attended to her needs. We know we will see her again.
