Donald Joseph Christen, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away from this mortal life at his home in Pleasant Grove, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, September 17, 2010, of causes incident to age.

Don was born April 30, 1922 in Carbon County, Utah, the sixth of 12 children born to Ernest and Clara Seewar Jaggi.

Don grew up during the Great Depression and learned the value of hard work. He served in the CCC as a young man as did his six brothers at one time or another. The CCC held a banquet to honor the seven brothers for their service; there has never been seven brothers serve in the same CCC Company.

Don married his eternal companion, Phyllis Kate Chadwick, on November 29, 1943, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been by each others' side ever since, sharing the good times and the bad, for over 66 years. Together with Phyllis, Don raised their six children in American Fork.

Don took his children every year on a family vacation to Yellowstone National Park; many cherished memories were made on these trips. After their children grew up, Don and Phyllis continued the yearly trips, taking the grandchildren along. Don enjoyed traveling as much as he could. Together with Phyllis he was able to travel throughout Europe, Mexico, Canada and much of the United States, including Alaska.

After Don retired from the State Developmental Center, he and Phyllis moved to Pleasant Grove, spending the summers there and the winters in Yuma, AZ. Most of his summer time was spent in the company of his loving family at his cabin near Francis, UT. Everyone always had a fantastic time visiting Grandpa at the cabin.

He really was a one of a kind man; the best dad and a terrific Grandpa. He was the family patriarch that we relied upon and he made each of us a better person as we spent our time with him. He is deeply loved and will be dearly missed. We all have been blessed to have had him in our lives and look forward to seeing him again.

Don is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children: Sherman, Joan Theresa (Paul), Lynn (Jeanne), Gavin (Pam) and Brian (Bobbi); two brothers, Russell (Deliah) and Paul (Jesse); three sisters, Helen Ryan, Barbara Bourgeois and Sally (Bill) Callahan; 30 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, one sister, five brothers, a son-in-law, grandson and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 24, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the American Fork 22nd Ward Chapel, 850 East 500 North. Viewings will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 E 100 N, American Fork, Utah and Friday at the church from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the services.

Interment in the American Fork City Cemetery.
