George Grant Clark was the son of James Wield & Christine Kailey Clark. Unfortunately, his parents divorced prior to the 1900 census, so I don't know where/when his father died or is buried. His father was born 4 Apr 1836, Annan, Dumfries-shire, Scotland and married his mother, 25 Feb 1869, Clinton County, Ohio.

George was born in Lockport, Niagra County, New York. His parents were in Sangamon County, Illinois by 1880, and onto Nebraska about 1886.

Funeral services for George Clark, pioneer farmer of this vicinity who passed away last Friday, were held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church. A large attendance was present at the final rites. Mr. Clark was born in Lickport, NY on Nov. 5, 1872 and at his death was 53 years, 5 months and 11 days old. He was married to Miss Minnie Hawkins on June 26, 1898. To this union were born eight children, two of whom preceded their father in death. The children suriving the deceased : Stella, Dwight, Laura, Esther and Gladys all of whom with their mother are left to mourn the loss of a devoted father and husband. He also leaves a mother, three sisters, one brother and a host of true friends to lament his departure. Mr Clark united with the Baptist church over 30 years ago and together with his family has been faithful to Christian work throughout the ensuing years. Mrs. Esther R. Miller of Burkburnett, TX and Mrs. George Bottorf of Arapahoe, CO were present for the rites at the church. The Rev. W.W. Crabtree officiated. Mr. Clark was buried at the Evergreen cemetery 14 miles southwest of Alliance. The funeral procession was made up of 50 cars.

The following is an excerpt from Prairie Pioneers of Box Butte County by Mae Manion:
"George Clark came to the area in the late 1880's, riding the train to Hay Springs and walking on to the village which is now Alliance, where he took over the homestead claim of his mother, in Wright precinct, ten miles south and west of Alliance.
George walked to town (10 miles) from the farm in Wright precinct, to work on the railroad, and walked back at night. His pay was one dollar, and he carried his lunch. Later he used a team to haul dirt for the railroad bed and was paid a little extra for the use of his team and wagon."by Gladys Clark Fowler
