Civil War Union Brigadier General. A native of Harrison County, Indiana, he served as a General in the Union Army during the Civil War. He also was a United States politician having served in many offices including as a Candidate for United States Representative from Indiana in 1856, Delegate to the Republican National Convention from Indiana in 1860, and in 1884, Member of the Indiana State House of Representatives in 1861, Adjutant General of Indiana from 1869 to 1870, and as a Candidate for Presidential Elector from Indiana in 1884. He died in Rockport, Indiana.
