She died of pneumonia at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Laura Bowman. I think the year of her birth should be 1848. She gave her age as 18 when she married in 1866, and her older brother seems to have been born in 1846." "Mahala married Johnson Minter Spence 25 Dec 1866. Her sister Julia later married Johnson's brother John Carroll...so their children were double first cousins."
