A GOOD MAN GONE.
-----
Mr. W. A. Montgomery Enters Into Rest--"Life's Fitful Fever O'er"

Mr. W. A. Montgomery died last night at 8 o'clock at his home, corner of Graham and Eighth streets. Deceased was 44 years of age. His health failed a year or more ago, and his physical condition affected his mind. He was taken to the Hospital at Morganton. About a month ago he was brought home, but it was soon seen that he was not permanently benefited. He has been lingering between life and death for two weeks or more. The end came at last quietly.

Mr. Montgomery was a member of the Second Presbyterian church and as one of the members of that church expressed it yesterday, "one of the best men who ever lived." "He walked with God," and his example is left as a bright and shining light to others. He leaves a family.

The funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence by Rev. J. W. Stagg. The pall-bearers will be: Messrs. Austin Todd, Mangum Osborne, B. F. Powell, O. B. Todd, J. C. Springs, M. F. Kirby, Reese Berryhill and David Holobaugh.
