DALLAS BLOCKER KILLED BY FALLING TREE
A pall of sadness was spread over the community Saturday morning when it was learned that Dallas Blocker had been killed by a falling tree. The tragic and fatal accident occurred near the family home early Saturday a.m. while he was engaged in cutting down a large tree, in the company of his father, J.A. Blocker, his half brother, Luther Blocker and his kinsman, Chesley Davis. Always a quiet and obedient child, he was loved by all who knew him. He was about 12 years old.
Dallas Blocker was the son of J. Adolphus Blocker and Lizzie Blocker. His mother preceded him to the grave nearly 12 years ago. Funeral services were held at Harmony Sunday a.m. at 10 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. Will Sasser officiating.
The choir sang part of two songs, "In The Land Where We Will Never Grow Old" and Will you Meet Me Over Yonder?".Prayer and scripture reading by the pastor. In his discourse, Rev. Sasser stated that having often been a guest in Dallas' home and having known him intimately as a dutiful and obedient child, he was confident that a home eternal awaited him, that this service was not the last meeting with the deceased, that he, and those attending would meet again in the great Beyond, that he was sure that Dallas Blocker's life had been pleasing in the sight of God, and that he had a home in Heaven.
He admonished his hearers to try to live a life that would be pleasing to God in order that they might inherit the kingdom.
He spoke of the uncertainty of this earthly life and asked them to live a good life while they had time, and assured all that in the life to come all would be reunited in Heaven.
An unusually large crowd attended. Relatives and friends from Antioch, Cedar Grove, Rose Hill, Sanford, Heath, and Andalusia came to pay their respects.
