He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Jean Yoakum Akers; three sons, Dan Akers of Searcy, Arkansas, Murray Akers of Owasso, Oklahoma, and George Christopher Akers of Cabot, Arkansas; two daughters, Debbie Akers Galloway of Helena, and Jeannie Akers Davis of Austin, Arkansas; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Miliose Akers Lyford of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Mr. Akers was a retired employee of Union Texas Petroleum Company. He was a decorated fighter pilot who served in World War II and a long time member of the Air Force Reserve. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church.
Burial in Maple Hill Cemetery in Helena.
