Elizabeth was the daughter of Littleton Doughty and Susanna Smith. She was born near Old Point Comfort, Elizabeth City County, Virginia. When she was 7 or 8 the family moved to Delaware County, Indiana, near present day Muncie. There she married James Madison Graham 22 Aug 1844. Elizabeth and James were the parents of five children:
Luther William Graham, 1846-1918
Xenia Belle Graham, 1847-1933
Zacharia Taylor Graham, 1848-
Sarah Jane Graham, 1850-1915
Susan "Rose" Arazina Graham, 1852-1931

While Elizabeth was pregnant with their last child, James left his family for the gold fields of California. Elizabeth obtained a divorce in 1855 and went to work as a domestic servant for various families. Her children lived with various families that could care for them in her absence.

Her obituary from Berrien County Record, January 10, 1880. Town and County page.

"A dispatch from Niles, of Jan. 6th, says: "Mrs. Elizabeth Graham, a widow woman of perhaps 45 years of age, living in this city, was found dead in her bed yesterday morning. A neighbor woman who was sleeping with her, hearing some one knock- ing at the door, called to her, nut found her dead and cold. The coroner's jury concluded that she died from natural causes."
