Hempstead Washburne, 82, of Lake Forest, IL, died April 22, 2005 of complications from Parkinson's disease. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1945 after having served in t he Marine corps and worked at Marshall Field & Co. Subsequently he bought Robertson's Men's Store which he expanded to include boys and women's wear. Ted served on the board of the Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce and as president, he founded the annual Lake Forest Day Run. He was also on the board of the local chapter of the Red Cross, The First National Bank of Lake Forest and was instrumental in setting up the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Community Fund. After retiring from Robertson's , Ted tutored adults at the Lake County Literacy GED program. Ted is survived by his wife of 53 years, Scott; three children, Katherine W. (Larry) Reimelt of Webster Groves, MO, Stephen H. (Amanda) Washburne of Medfield, MA and Sarah D. W. (David) Karnes of Lake Geneva, WI; seven grandchildren; two sisters Virginie W. Isham, Marie W. Campbell and a brother Thomas D. Washburne. A Memorial Mass will be held at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Rd., Lake Forest on Monday, April 25 at 1:30 p.m. Please no flowers. Memorials may be sent to the Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) Parkinson's Research/Movement Disorders, 1725 W. Harrison St., Chicago, IL 60612.
