(Obituary from the Saint Clairsville Gazette, January 5th, 1833)
Died - On the 29th December, at his residence in Union township after a short illness, John Boyd Esq. In the 77th year of his age. Mr. Boyd was born in Cecil co. Md. in 1756. In our Revolutionary struggle he took up arms and gallantly defended his country. In 1800 he migrated to Ohio and lived in this county till his death. He was a substantial citizen: as an industrious and frugal farmer - as an accommodating, friendly and intelligent neighbor - as a politician, firm and consistent in the support of the democrat principles and institutions he aided in establishing in his youth - and last and not least, as a Christian he was exemplary for his morality and piety, and he died, as he had long lived, a revered and esteemed member of the Union Church.
